Flowcode creator spotlight showcases the talents and skills from our community. Today, get to know Shambrekia Wise. She’s the Creator of Sightseeing with Sandy, a developmental platform for children to discover the world!

Hey Shambrekiá, thanks for taking the time to chat — could you tell me about your brand?

Hello! My name is Shambrekia Wise and I am the creator of Sightseeing with Sandy, a children's travel book series and learning platform that introduces families to the world around them without them ever leaving home! We do this by teaching geography, history and culture through our interactive learning materials as well as our books based on global travel with our main characters, Sandy & Zooma.

How did you become a founder? I see you and your daughter run your business!

Yes! It was actually Sandy’s idea-I just helped bring it to life!  On a trip to LA, Sandy noticed how few children, especially children of color were on our plane, and she called it out…on the plane…loudly.

I was mortified for only.1 seconds because my child has 0 filters, but she had a point.  We talked when we returned home about not only her concerns, but also how we could bring a solution to a problem that was clearly prominent amongst many underprivileged children and families. The children’s travel book series was her answer.

That was 2.5 years ago. Today, we have our LLC, 4 books published with copyrights & trademarks and a host of supporters who are continuing to help us grow!

We have 4 out our 8 books for the first volume published and ALL are available on Amazon. We’ve also curated box kits that will be on presale late this summer.  They will comprise of books and other interactive materials that will engage both children and adults. Here’s the link for the series:

It’s really cool to see how you incorporate QR technology into your product — why did you decide to do it?

According to several studies (here’s one!), 80% of classroom learning is visual.  Understanding this, I wanted to take my teaching through our flashcards leaps and bounds further.  By using Flowcode, I am able to give high depth images and videos to all users, increasing learning and making it exceptionally fun!  While kids may not get to experience opportunities firsthand, we can help them feel like they are there for alllll the action!

When did you discover Flowcode and how?

Two years ago and it was TOTALLY divine intervention because I knew NOTHING about the QR space, but I quickly saw the value in Flowcode!

We're so happy you found us and that you're getting value! How are you using Flowcode now?

I’m using Flowcode to engage the next generation of learners, explorers, adventurers, and leaders so they don’t ask if they will get to experience the road, but instead know they will find a way to share their gifts with the world.

That's a great way to use the product. Have you noticed how QR codes helped your business?

We haven’t started marketing the cards yet (but within the next week, we will be dropping our press release in masses!). We have been in the development stages, and we wanted to make sure everything was done right!

Of course! What’s the most interesting way you’ve used QR codes?

That’s hard because I really don’t know what my favorite part of the kits are between the flashcards and the postcards!  Both are exciting and take kids to new fun places and really bring our stories to life!

Why should book companies use QR technology?

I think books, especially those geared to those children below the age of 12 have the obligation to help children dream, explore and access the world with the turn of every page.  Unfortunately, this is much easier said than done, but as advance as we are, it’s up to us to level that playing field.  This is what we do at “Sightseeing with Sandy”. Flowcode is the financially affordable first-class ticket to new adventures and journeys around the globe for people of all ages. I hope more innovative ways are created to continue to break down these barriers for all “Sightseers”!

Any other exciting projects coming up that we should keep an eye out for?

Oh yeah! We are dropping two promos this year! One introducing our personal journeys - from trips to the creation of books, it’s the real inside look at a day in the life- and the other will be something more so geared to the kids, just in time for Christmas! Stay tuned!
