Women's History Month Spotlight: Meet Flowcode Partner - Genevieve Carvil-Harris

Meet Genevieve Carvil-Harris, Business Consultant and Co-Founder, Crowd WallStreet Rewards

March is Women's History Month, honoring the vital role of women in American history. This year’s theme is “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope,” a tribute to the caregivers and frontline workers during the pandemic and in recognition of the many ways women have provided healing and hope throughout history.

This month we wanted to spotlight some of the partners we work with, incredible women who are business owners, creating an impact in their communities and or paving the way for future generations of female leaders. They share how they use the Flowcode  platform to grow their business, what Women's History Month means to them, the best advice they've ever received and more.

Genevieve Harris Womens History Month

Tell us about your business:

I’ve always been a business consultant, and I’ve always used my social media platform to help people start their own businesses and direct them to funding. Recently, my business partner LaShondra Johnson and I partnered with my friends Tavaris Williams, Jamsky French, Founders of Crowd Wallstreet Inc. to create Crowd WallStreet Rewards, a crowdfunding platform where people can raise capital for their businesses. The entire team helps businesses connect to funding and even has developed Crowd WallStreet Wisconsin led by Shanta Hereford. The SEC and FINRA has to approve you to be a regulated equity crowdfunding platform though. There were only two Black-owned crowdfunding platforms up until now and Crowd WallStreet Inc. is now the 3rd Black-owned crowdfunding platform in the country. It’s literally history

How do you use the Flowcode platform across your business?

I love Flowpage. I am a huge advocate for the platform. It’s not only a tool for brand awareness but also conversion. With every client I work with, I always tell them they have to create a Flowpage. I use it for bookings, for people to connect with my social media and so much more. I put my Flowcode on T-shirts and on tables when at events so anyone can scan my code and get right to my page to connect with me. My Flowpage  has been a powerful way to get people to connect with me and I love it so much.

Before Flowcode and Flowpage I would just encourage people to find me on Instagram and Facebook. People spend a lot of money on their websites but it’s not always clear what action someone should take, people want to be directed. What I found with Flowpage is that it has the look of a landing page/website, and it easily directs people to go where you want them to go.

Since I started using Flowpage, I’ve seen a measurable difference in my business because I do so much. I operate a community ministry, a consulting and business development company, a tea brand and now Crowd WallStreet Rewards so because of that it used to be hard for people to know how to access me. I always tell people I’m not a forest, I am a tree with different branches. Flowpage allows for me to be that tree and for people to decide which branch of me they want to get connected to.

What does Women’s History Month mean to you and what responsibility do you feel as a female business leader and entrepreneur?

I feel a tremendous responsibility and I take my role in history very seriously. I believe that everyone who is alive is a part of history in some way, even though some contributions may be more known than others.

It’s all about impacting the life of one person that’s looking to you - whether that’s a young girl or an older woman, who may not have had the freedoms and opportunities that I have today. I think about my mother, my aunts, my godmothers, even my teachers, who grew up in a different time. Today women can dream, women can even aspire to be Vice President of the United States if they choose to.

Women’s History Month is about recognizing the shoulders we are standing on and honoring the women who paved the way for us. In turn, we have a responsibility to pave the way for those that are coming behind us.

Was there a moment in your life when you realized you had this responsibility?

Growing up I thought I was going to be an attorney. I went to law school and in my first year, I knew it wasn’t where I wanted to be. So I took a leave of absence from school, which was an incredibly hard decision for me to make because it had been my dream all my life and I would have been the first attorney in my family.

I realized that in taking that big risky step the next thing I did would have to be something that really mattered. I didn’t know what was going to happen but I still ended up making history. I think that really speaks to the fact that you can change courses in life and make a decision that’s better for you, and if you are supposed to do certain things and make certain marks - you will anyway!

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received and who gave it to you?

I’ve been given so many gems along the way. If I had to choose one it would be what my mentor Julie Fleurinor-Moore told me - “trust the voice in your head that you are afraid to listen to.” She meant that I should not let fear stop me from achieving success.

Who has been one of the biggest role models in your life?

Oprah Winfrey. I remember watching Oprah growing up as a Black woman and seeing how she gave people a voice and let them tell their stories. I’ve always thought about my life in the context of making my story matter so that she could see it and give a nod to it.

How important is Flowcode as a tool for female business owners like yourself?

Flowcode and Flowpage provides access, not only in terms of the connections it helps create through a scan or a click, but also it’s an affordable tool for any business owner. Some business owners may not be able to afford website development! Most of my clients don’t pay much attention to their websites, let alone even spend the money to build them, they just use Flowpage. When working with new clients on their engagement and retention I always ask- where is your Flowpage?

What’s next for you?

I’m working on a mentorship program, called Moments Into Millions, which helps people understand the value of their ideas and guides them on a successful path. The idea is that if it leads you to a lucrative idea, awesome, and if it doesn’t that’s great too because you can move on and continue to invest in yourself and new ideas without capital, time and resources wasted.
